The Powder Pines Guide to the 10 Best Hot Chocolates in the Three Valleys

Girl enjoying hot chocolate on a terrace in Meribel.

A hot chocolate should improve the ski day, not interrupt it. Pick the moment, find the view and settle in properly.

Somewhere between first lift and après, every good ski day needs a moment when you stop pretending your fingers are fine. A proper hot chocolate is not a consolation prize for coming in early; it is part of the plan. It gives you a warm seat, a chance to reflect on the morning’s runs and a VERY good reason to take your gloves off.

Whether you need a post-powder thaw, a family reset or a reason to delay your final run, the Three Valleys has plenty of places to make that pause count, which is why we have handpicked 10 chocolat chauds worth taking your gloves off for…

The highest stop on our list and arguably the most dramatic. Chalet de la Marine's sunny terrace looks out over the Val Thorens valley in all its glory — the perfect place to warm your hands and remind yourself why you came here in the first place.

Le Plan des Mains, Meribel terrace. The perfect pitstop for a break when travelling between valleys.

09 Le plan des mains

Sitting at the very heart of the Three Valleys, Le Plan des Mains is the ideal spot to recalibrate, refuel, and figure out your next move. With easy access to both Courchevel and Val Thorens, it is less of a detour and more of a strategic base camp (with excellent hot chocolate).

10 la loy

📍Saint-Martin-de-Belleville · 1549m · Access: via Biolley blue run

Our personal favourite, and perhaps the most enchanting stop on the entire list. La Loy is a lesser-known gem tucked away in Saint-Martin-de- Belleville, and it earns every bit of the detour. Make sure you take the left turning on the Biolley piste — miss it, and you will spend the rest of the week thinking about what could have been.
